The Arizona Wildfire Initiative aims to become a center of excellence for wildland fire education, science communication, workforce development, and community resilience in the Southwest, prioritizing the needs of all communities through responsive programs and resource development. Funded in 2023 by the Arizona Governor’s office and housed out of Northern Arizona University’s School of Forestry, the AZWI is in a unique position to address workforce development and education in the fields of wildland fire and forestry, create relevant and timely science communication by connecting researchers and land managers, and to facilitate community wildfire resilience through outreach events.
