• Establishing oak advance reproduction prior to overstory harvest is more efficient than enrichment planting after overstory harvest.
• A prior midstory release is important to develop competitive oak advance reproduction before a subsequent overstory harvest to ensure successful oak regeneration.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to explain the challenges of oak regeneration in mixed bottomland hardwood forests and the role of management to successfully regenerate oaks in this forest type.
Upon completion, participants will be able to establish the practicality of enrichment planting after overstory harvest fails to regenerate oak species and evaluate the effectiveness of midstory release with enrichment planting and underplanting approaches.
Upon completion, participants will be able to explain the time lag for planted oak seedlings to show a growth response to midstory release.
