Student Northern Arizona University Flagstaff, Arizona, United States
Quaking aspen faces multiple threats in the Southwest yet little is known about how effective silvicultural treatments are in meeting prescription objectives in aspen stands. We will compare results from experimental silvicultural treatments in northern Arizona and interpret these to inform future aspen management practices.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will understand more about oystershell scale as a threat to aspen, including impacts on aspen health and mortality. Knowledge learned from oystershell scale extent and severity will be used to inform future aspen management practices.
Upon completion, participant will be able to assess the effectiveness and differences of various silvicultural treatments in quaking aspen exclosures by analyzing differences in oystershell scale severity and aspen regeneration abundance.
