Community Forestry is a management approach which elevates local priorities and perspectives when identifying management priorities and implementing forest management practices. This session will discuss research on, and the experience of, acquiring and managing community forests for a multitude of economic and ecological priorities.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, attendees of this panel will come away with a better understanding of the Community Forest management approach. This session will show how locally identified forest management goals of these properties coalesce in community forest efforts. Additionally, by pulling from a nation-wide research project, this session will provide attendees with a better understanding of the variance of management and governance structures from community forests across the nation.
Understand the ways a forest can best reflect the needs of its local user groups, which will take place through the expertise from panelists, highlighting multiple case studies and cutting-edge research around community forests.
Introduce the community forest management approach to forestland owners following the conference.
Share the potential types of management and governance which needs to be established to ensure the long-term success of a community forest effort.
