Over the past four years, California has developed a forestry mentorship program to improve recruitment and retention of recent college graduates. Understanding changing perspectives while building a sense of inclusion is crucial for adapting to a modern forestry profession and workforce.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to collaborate with universities and industry to design an effective student-driven mentorship program and bolster workforce development efforts locally.
Upon completion, participant will better understand the impact and necessity of mentorship to address recruitment and retention challenges in the forestry workforce.
Upon completion, participant will be able to understand emergent strategies to: increase recruitment and retention of professionals in forestry and natural resources; encourage the inclusion of traditionally underrepresented students in the field, particularly those who identify as women, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and/or LGBTQIA; and foster community to support young professionals as they enter the workforce.
