A variety of North American pine species are adapted to fire. We tested the hypothesis that loblolly pine would experience an increase in basal area increment following prescribed fire application. Through dendrochronological analysis of loblolly pine, we found that there was an increase in increment growth following prescribed fire.
Learning Objectives:
Explain how prescribed fire impacts loblolly pine growth.
Identify how prescribed fire can be used to promote pine growth and vigor in managed pine plantations in the southeastern United States
