Unprecedented outbreaks of needle diseases in stands in the southeast is raising concern among foresters, especially as they are now occurring on the principal timber product, loblolly pine, a host that was not of concern before. We discuss approaches for establishing survey and surveillance that are relevant for this phenomenon.

Learning Objectives:

Provide a framework outlining the best approaches for surveying and surveillance given the phenomenon of brown spot needle blight.
Upon completion, participants will learn the different applications of surveying and surveillance that are appropriate to the brown spot needle disease phenomena.
Opne completion, participants will understand the need for a statistical and biologically informed sampling method.
