Understanding the distribution of a target species in a forest is crucial for effective restoration strategies. Therefore, we are developing a deep learning algorithm to determine the spatial distribution of pine species using aerial LiDAR, aiding the restoration of the declining yellow pine ecosystem of the southern Appalachian region.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the effectiveness of aerial LiDAR for species identification.
Upon completion, participants will be able to understand how deep learning can be effectively applied to solve forestry challenges.
