We quantified U.S. non-wood forest values for the Montreal Process Criteria using reproducible frameworks. The indicators are: 1. import and export values of NWFP, 2. area of forest used for subsistence, 3. area of forests protected for cultural, social, and spiritual values, and 4. importance of forests to people.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the types of non-timber forest values and why they are important for forest management and sustainability.
Upon completion, participant will be able to understand that these are not rigidly defined values, and everyone may have their own interpretation of the Montreal Indicator prompts. They will be able to interpret out understanding and evaluate their own understanding of the same prompts.
Upon completion, participant will be able to postulate ways in which quantification of non-timber forest values could be advanced through expansion of primary data collection.
