Accidents are notable in wildland firefighting. From 2005 to 2015 the United States lost 176 wildland firefighters with 42 reported accidents per year. A longitudinal study on sleep quality, quantity, and fatigue levels of U.S.F.S. Smokejumpers was initiated during the 2017 fire season.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize when they are fatigued and be able to implement sleep Best Management Practices to improve sleep quantity and quality on and off the fireline.
Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the physiological and mental implications lack of sleep and subsequent fatigue can have on their reaction times and decision making processes.
