Project objectives involve the evaluation of the timing and relationships between host phenology, nitidulid beetle vectors, and environmental factors potentially limiting the northward progression of oak wilt. A better understanding of northern expansion risk is critical for oak wilt prevention and the management of oak forests.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the current range of oak wilt disease, areas at risk, and the mechanisms of disease spread.
Recognize some oak wilt vector species names in a community list and know the times of year they are most active.
Describe how nitidulid beetles are captured in multiple trap types and discuss oak spring bud phenology in relationship to the timing of nitidulid beetle capture in traps and artificial wounds across the northern landscape.
