Eastern hemlock infested with hemlock woolly adelgid is responding with improved health and vigor when exposed to increased sunlight after commercial thinning. Silvicultural techniques, in conjunction with classical biological control, have promise in prolonging the life of naturally occurring eastern hemlock stands and reducing stress from hemlock woolly adelgid feeding.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to explain how silviculture can be used as a tool to invigorate naturally occurring stands of eastern hemlock.
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the importance of utilizing classical biological control to combat hemlock woolly adelgid populations.
