Research Forester USDA Forest Service, United States
Little research has documented the treatment of forest management on conservation easements (CEs). We coded 600 CE documents for the prevalence of forest management and subdivision allowances and restrictions and correlated them to CE characteristics. This research has implications for understanding how CEs may influence forest health over time.
Learning Objectives:
describe the range of forest management and subdivision allowances and restrictions on CEs and how they correlate to CE characteristics, such as location, holder type (federal, state, local, land trust), year of establishment, size, and conservation purposes
understand the ecological and legal considerations of perpetual CEs
