Virginia Cooperative Extension
Madison, Virginia, United States
Since 2001 Adam has worked as the Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Agent serving Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Northwest District, a 20-county area spanning the Shenandoah Valley and the Northern Piedmont. His professional expertise is in providing informal education regarding forestry and natural resources to address current issues in rural, urban, and rural/urban interface areas to home & landowners, professionals, decision-makers, and the general public. His mission is to enable people to make best decisions regarding the forest & natural resources, within their realm of influence, resulting in environmentally sustainable management, growth, and quality of life for that person and that community.
Adam is a Fellow in the Society of American Foresters and was recognized as the National recipient of the Technology Transfer Award in 2021. In 2023 he received the Gerald P. McCarthy Award for Leadership in Environmental Conflict Resolution from the UVA Institute for Engagement & Negotiation and in 2024 received the John A Beale award from the Society of American Foresters.
He was also an extension forester with Penn State in the late 90’s and prior to joining the “extension family,” Adam volunteered with the United States Peace Corps in Kenya as an agro-forestry extension agent. He has also worked as an Assistant Service Forester in Indiana with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Adam holds a B.S. Degree in Forestry from Purdue University and a M.S. Degree in Forest Resources from Penn State University.
As much as Adam loves trees, he loves people more and for fun he likes to ride a motorbike with church friends.
