State Forest Field Office, Gould CO
Brief Bio
Blair has over twenty years of experience in the field of natural resource management. He started his career as seasonal USFS employee in Montana, working in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and on the Flathead Hotshot Crew. He spent winters working with a local logger assisting with timber stand improvement, fuels reduction and pile burning. In 2008, Blair stumbled into the field of international forestry and conservation, spending time in Ecuador, Panama, Mexico and Sri Lanka.
After receiving a Master of Forestry from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Blair made the decision to leave the humid tropics for a forester position with the Colorado State Forest Service. He has since accepted the position of State Forest Manager and oversees forest management of the approximately 72,000-acre Colorado State Forest. In recent years he has led projects focused on addressing the effects of a historic mountain pine beetle outbreak, protecting the water supply of the City of Fort Collins and experimenting with adaptive silviculture in the context of a changing climate.
Blair has personally administered thousands of acres of forest treatment, and regularly works with local partners to address concerns related to forest health and fuels mitigation.
