Kumba holds a master’s degree in Forest Science from Yale School of the Environment and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from the University of The Gambia, the Gambia, West Africa. Born and raised in the rural landscapes of Dankunku Village in the Central River Region of the Gambia, she developed a profound connection with the forest and spent her childhood eating wild fruits, observing wildlife, and playing in the bushlands. This early bond with nature forged her lifelong passion for forest restoration and conservation.
Kumba has dedicated her career to ensuring that the forested havens she cherished as a child will be restored for future generations. Her work focuses on innovative strategies for forest restoration, aiming to revive ecosystems that provide ecological balance and cultural significance.
