Kevin P. Hoyt is the director of the UT-Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center (UT FRREC) headquartered in Oak ridge, Tennessee. The center functions primarily as a field research laboratory, and is comprised of 11,481 acres, which includes a 250-acre certified arboretum. Although primarily a research facility, the center supports the University of Tennessee – Institute of Agriculture land-grant mission of research, education and engagement. Kevin’s career spans over 40 years in both private forest industry and public organization leadership roles. His research/demonstration project interests are focused on NIPF woodlot management operations, multiple-use natural resource management, sustainable forestry and carbon sequestration. Kevin attended the University of Montana - School of Forestry for two years and ultimately received his B.S. in Forest Management (83’), M.S. in Forestry (88’) and PhD in Natural Resources (08’), all from The University of Tennessee - Knoxville. He completed the Michigan State – Forest Carbon Management Graduate Certificate in 2023. He is a graduate of the land-grant university LEAD21 leadership program (2021) and a long time board member of the Tennessee Forestry Association (TFA). He has been a member of the Society of American Foresters since 1984 and attained Certified Forester status in 2001.
