PhD Candidate & Research Assistant
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, United States
My name is Tierney Bocsi (M.S., B.S.), and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the People, Institutions, and Ecosystems (PIE) lab. With a background in wildlife and urban forestry, my research at UW-Madison combines my interests in ecology with social science in natural resources management and conservation. I am currently working on a project to better understand new landowners and determine the needs and timing for outreach efforts based on where and when real estate transfer occurs on the landscape, along with landowner demographics. I am also on a project about urban tree equity. This work seeks to determine the drivers of canopy cover in major Wisconsin cities and plans to engage directly with communities to evaluate their priorities and understand local perspectives on inclusive, equitable, and effective processes for improving canopy cover at the neighborhood level. I have a B.S. in Natural Resources Conservation: Wildlife Ecology and Conservation and a M.S. in Environmental Conservation: Forest Resources and Arboriculture, both from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
