Vishnu Thampuran, BS. Computer Science, Minor in Business
Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL
Vishnu is a Computer Science undergrad at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where his work specializes in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Software Engineering. Driven by a deep interest in applying his technical background to forest and land management, Vishnu seeks to innovate at the intersection of sustainability and technology. His current project explores machine learning applications for optimizing forest thinning through LiDAR data, aiming to enhance the efficiency of land management practices.
His current work includes developing advanced machine learning models for medical imaging applications, particularly for brain MRI analysis in collaboration with the University of Chicago. He is also part of the EcoCAR EV Challenge team at IIT, building autonomous driving algorithms and inter-vehicular communication protocols for connected and automated vehicles. In addition to his research, Vishnu serves as the Secretary of MachineLearning@IIT, where he manages large-scale events and fosters a community of over 500 members.
He is passionate about integrating machine learning technologies with environmental data to optimize land and forest management strategies towards building a sustainable future. Vishnu's drive to contribute to social and environmental innovation has seen him apply his skills across several international competitions and hackathons, including a second-place international win at the European Rover Challenge. His research and technical acumen position him at the intersection of technology and sustainability, and he is eager to share is his work at the SAF conference.
