Melinda Vokoun, PhD is an associate professor and the current forestry discipline coordinator at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. She is starting her 15th year at the UWSP where she teaches Forest Management and Finance, Resource Economics, labs in Dendrology, labs in Introduction to Fisheries, Forestry, and Wildlife, and in various summer field experience courses. She also serves as the academic advisor to the UWSP SAF chapter.
Melinda began her natural resource journey in Girl Scouts, with activities and stays at day and overnight camps. She was a member of the forestry club at Michigan Tech, where she also received her BS in Forestry. She then went on to get her MS and her PhD in Forest Resource Management and Economics at Virginia Tech. She worked on a post-doctorate fellowship at North Carolina State University before arriving in Wisconsin.
Melinda is currently an active board member of the Wisconsin SAF, serving as the State Chair and currently leads the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Melinda is also a member of both the Economics, Policy and Law and the Diversity and Inclusion Communities of interest within National SAF. Melinda also serves as the UWSP representative to the WI Forestry Hall of Fame Committee.
When not busy at work or with SAF, Melinda is the mother of two teenagers and enjoys running, reading, and crafting.
