Rachel D. Kline, PhD is a Supervisory Historian for the USDA Forest Service and a Public Historian of women, the environment, and public lands. She holds a PhD in environmental history from the University of New Hampshire, where she explored the history of women in conservation and forestry, as well as an MA in Public History from Colorado State University. She has researched forest management from the Reserves and Custodial Era (1890s) through the 2000s, including forest policies, programs, and recreation, and particularly, women’s experiences within land management. She is the author of numerous scholarly articles, public history reports, and community histories. She is the 2024 recipient of the National Archives Foundation Cokie Roberts Fellowship, which will facilitate research for her forthcoming book, We Feminine Foresters: Women and the USDA Forest Service.
