Dr. Hillard is a Forest Biometrician with American Forest Management (AFM). Dr. Hillard holds a doctorate from Michigan Technological University, and held the position of Forest Biometrician for the State of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. In Dr. Hillard’s current capacity as a Forest Biometrician for North America's largest forestry consulting firm, he specializes in exotic hardwoods and fast growing species management, along with integrating remotes sensing into the biometric services offered by AFM. Dr. Hillard also served in the US Peace Corps; Malawi from 2009-2012 and holds a graduate degree in Geographic Information Sciences, and a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in Biological sciences.
Nate Herring, M.S Forest Biometrics, Director of Biometrics and Inventory Services, American Forest Management
Nate Herring is the Director of Biometrics and Inventory Services at American Forest Management (AFM). He received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Penn State, a Master’s of Science in Biometrics from Virginia Tech, and has held the role of AFM’s lead Biometrician for 17 years. Nate’s leadership of the biometrics and inventory teams encompasses the 5.6 million acres of land currently under management by AFM as well as supporting AFM’s Forest Resource Planning and Data Management service lines. In addition to biometric and inventory staples such as inventory design, data wrangling, model evaluation, and developing growth and yield system, Nate’s work includes evaluating and applying remote sensing solutions, harvest planning, carbon and ESG reporting, IT, client relationships, and various other hard and soft skills.
