The non-native balsam woolly adelgid has infested subalpine fir forests of Utah and is causing extensive damage. Preliminary studies documenting the amount of damage, mortality, and infestation spread indicate tree- and stand-level variation in effects. Hazard models suggest silvicultural activities may limit infestation severity.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe in general the life cycle of the balsam woolly adelgid.
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe ways to minimize the effect of balsam woolly adelgid on subalpine fir stands.
