Outreach Coordinator

SAF Working Group Officer
Houghton, Michigan, United States
My name is Krause and I use they/them pronouns.
I am the Outreach Coordinator for the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University with a background in wildland firefighting, forestry, and diversity work. I currently hold the position of Vice Chair for the National SAF Diversity and Inclusion Community of Interest, and serve as the Chair of the Diversity Committee in my College at MTU.
As a minoritized individual and part of the LGBTQ+ community, my diversity work in natural resources has spread around the country. I have presented talks titled "OUTside With Pride" at multiple SAF events and smaller forestry conferences across the Midwest - a presentation that teaches folks how to be a better ally to minoritized groups in natural resources. My work in DEI focuses on teaching NR professionals the impacts shared among individuals when diversity is intentionally incorporated within our field. Since I began my Master of Forestry degree I have incorporated my passion for DEI, social justice, wildland fire, and the environment to teach others how to be an ally, create sustainable forestry practices, and save our future forests.
