Director of Conservation Operations, East Region
National Wild Turkey Federation
Cornwallville, New York, United States
Doug Little, Certified Wildlife Biologist; Director of Conservation Operations (East) for the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Doug has undergraduate degrees from Paul Smith's College and the State University of NY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. He received his MS in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from Mississippi State University. Doug's graduate studies focused on human dimensions of wild turkey hunters that utilized wildlife management areas. Prior to his role with NWTF, Doug worked as a wildlife habitat biologist for the PA Game Commission and as a regional wildlife biologist for the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation. Doug has been with NWTF since 2005 as a District Biologist covering NY/New England and into his current role as the eastern region Director of Conservation Operations. Doug works collaboratively with NWTF staff, volunteers, and partners on landscape scale initiative-based work throughout the eastern US region. Much of this work entails active forest management to improve forest health and diversity. Young forests are in short supply, though are vital in the northeast for wild turkeys and many other wildlife species that depend on these early successional stage habitats for some portion of their life-cycle. When not working, Doug enjoys spending time hunting, camping, and fishing with his family.
