Valery Serrano-Lopez (She/her/ella), U.S Forest Service, Continental Divide national Scenic Tail's Partnership Liaison Specialist. Valery is a first-generation Colombian immigrant, who moved to the states with her family when she was younger. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology and is working towards completing her Master of Arts and Science in Biology. Currently her masters research is concentrating on the relationship between students of color and the outdoors, finding a connection between outdoor inquiry programs and a student’s confidence in science. Her studies have allowed her to better understand her community, acknowledging the barriers and finding ways to connect underrepresented communities to the outdoors and its potential careers. Valery loves to travel and has had the opportunity to explore different countries and their conservation efforts thanks to her masters program. Primary author of the Cutural Landscape Training Path, Amanda Grace Santos, Santa Fe National Forest Archeologist, and Valery published the training in November 2023 and have attended different conferences sharing the training to attendees. Additionally, they have hosted online webinars and trainings and are always looking for new opportunies to present to a wide range of audiences. In her free time, Valery cares for her indoor plants and enjoys kayaking in the estuaries near her home on gulf coast in Pensacola, FL.
